After three and a half weeks, the chicken coop is out back and in its final resting place. It took me a while to get it out in the backyard because I had to replace the worn out plastic roof and installed a corrugated metal roof. I also replaced all the chicken wire, removed a bunch of stray nails, and installed a door with a latch. Then, I had to get three other people to help me pick it up and move it but we got it done and the chickens are now finally outside.
The chickens are now about two months old and they were living in a sixty gallon tote. Needless to say, with eight chickens and two feeders, it was quite tight and they really needed to get out in their coop. Though we don’t have a run set up for them yet, they are extremely happy to have a lot more room to run around and spread their wings. They haven’t yet figured out how to get in and out of the house itself and have to be picked up but I don’t think it is going to be long until they catch on. Chickens are very smart birds. Now to just build them a run and wait for eggs!
